Let Sculptor™ do the Work
Sculptor saves you time and money. A significant amount of time can be consumed reshaping and analyzing, reshaping and analyzing, iterating again and again until a design objective is reached. Conveniently, Sculptor has an optimization feature that automates this iteration process.
Here the pipe elbow is shown again, but with the CFD face edges concealed (leaving only a smooth surface). Sculptor's automatic optimization is initiated from the "Optimize" menu, and Sculptor sequentially reshapes the grid and calls your CFD code to iterate toward the objective. In this case, the objective is to minimize the difference between inlet and outlet pressures. In a few iterations, Sculptor finds the optimal solution while you simply sit back and watch. In this case, the new pressure difference is 430 Pascal compared to the original value of 900 Pascal.
Clearly this is a simple example. However, Sculptor can be applied to virtually any grid-based analysis. If your objective function is based on a finite element or finite volume grid, then Sculptor can be used to reshape your grid toward your design objective. Fluid flow, pressure drop, drag, lift, heat transfer, shock, fluid mixing, valve flow — use your imagination! Try microwave deflection from a smooth surface, or perfecting the shape and orientation of a swimmer's hand scooping through the water. The possibilities are truly limitless.
